The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier is a hands on, interactive museum for children and their families.

Shop in the “Littlest” Giant Market, become a pilot and fly a plane.  Our life-size fire truck is available to explore along with the full dress uniform of a busy and dedicated fire fighting professional.  If you want to share your happy smile, we have an Action News television studio all set-up for you complete with a video monitor and weather maps.  If the medical field is more your style, the hospital and dentist office should satisfy even the most curious of visitors.   The artist in everyone can blossom in our Studio 60 where you can create your own drawings and take them home with you or step inside a giant bubble. Walk through a giant tree and into the pages of the books of Jan Brett.

There is a never-ending supply of imagination and fun to explore!

THE STORY GARDEN ENTRANCE
The Story Garden Takes Root!

Here at The Discovery Center, there is a growing excitement about our new Story Garden, a Children's Interactive Garden on our grounds. A gift from the Junior League of Binghamton, it contains 13 interactive areas. Each area focuses on themes from children's literature. Children will use the outdoor play areas to stimulate their imagination, discover literature, and explore nature. Visitors can create their own stories, play in a beautiful outdoor setting, and grow their appreciation of nature and wonderful literature at the Story Garden. The total sensory experience of the Story Garden offers the opportunity to excite the child in all of us!

GET IN THE GAME!
The Discovery Center’s new sports and fitness exhibit sponsored by the Binghamton Mets and the Binghamton Senators is scoring big with our young players and their families.  If you haven’t checked it out then hurry up and Get In The Game!  Learn about the importance of wearing proper protective gear, the basics of baseball and hockey and cross-train your brain with some sports science!  We promise you will be sporting a smile while checking out this exhibit that has every child playing first string!

A Weather Watch is advised!

The Discovery Center has opened a new Weather Watch Station and we predict fun headed your way! The conditions are perfect for an investigation in all things weather. A working weather station on The Discovery Center roof will help you make an accurate forecast for your family and friends. Wind speed, humidity temperature and barometric pressure readings will give you all the information you need to go on air in The Discovery Center News Center. Want to check the weather before you make your visit to The Discovery Center? Check it online. The Discovery Center Weather Watch Station data is available on our web site:

ON NOAH'S ARK

Jan Brett's story from Kenya, "On Noah's Ark" opened in February in our waterplay area. Costumes, interactive searches and animals coming two by two have created a warm and happy page from this wonderful book.

Music Alley

It’s SHOWTIME!  Kids are making a little music of their own as they meander through our new music alley thanks to our friends from Carousel Harmony Chorus, a wonderful group of female vocalists responsible for the sponsorship of our new exhibit of musical play.  Young vocalists and musicians are stepping to the beat as they try their hand at playing musical instruments, take center stage to sing a solo or harmonize with a friend!  We are hitting all the right notes at The Discovery Center!

Kids Chiropractic

No bones about it, we have touched a nerve with this new exhibit!  Step into our office, kids, and explore fun-filled activities that investigate the nervous system.  Become science smart and body healthy while investigating the human body and learn how important it is to stand tall!  A heart felt thank you to the brains behind the operation, chiropractors David Martin and Joe McAulliffe for making this exhibit a reality.
