Earth Day Celebration and Opening Day in our Story Garden
Sunday, April 24th – Come to The Discovery Center and our Story Garden to celebrate Earth Day on Sunday, April 24th from 12:30-3:30pm. There will be activities inside and out featuring our wiggly “limbless invertebrate” friends – the lowly but powerful Earth Worm. You will get to help us as we re-stock our Story Garden Worm Farm for the spring with hundreds of red wiggler earth worms! We’re feed the worms some of their favorite foods, do some creative projects, and then learn about why those worms are so important. You can even Adopt a Pet Worm for YOUR garden at home!
What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to give the soil a boost with Earth Worms. To welcome spring, we will officially open our Story Garden with a special Celebration Tree lighting (weather permitting). We’ll also plant sunflower seeds outside, and then give you some seeds to take home for yourself.
The Discovery Center is part of a 4-venue event – Earth Day Southern Tier. Earth Fest, sponsored by Earth Day Southern Tier, is one of the longest-running celebrations of Earth Day in the nation and a respected Southern Tier institution.
A FREE trolley service connects 4 venues (SUNY Broome, Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park, The Discovery Center and Roberson Museum and Science Center) so, take the BC Trolley up if you’d like, or just wiggle on over!
All venues are offering discounts if you show up with a stamp from Roberson, The Discovery Center and Binghamton Zoo is $2 off.
