Our Mission: “The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier is committed to creating an environment that fosters the intellectual, physical, and emotional well-being of children through education, participatory exhibits and programs. “
Now in its fourth decade, The Discovery Center is a hands-on interactive children’s museum serving the Southern Tier of New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania. Located in historic Ross Park, this remarkable 22,500 square foot space is a unique learning environment. The Museum’s 30+ interactive exhibitions spark creative thinking, foster play-based learning, and build self-esteem.
The Story Garden, our outdoor exhibit space, and a signature project of the Junior League of Binghamton, was dedicated in 2007. The Story Garden seeks to spark the imagination of visitors through interactive experiences with images from favorite children’s books in an outdoor setting. The award-winning Story Garden promotes an appreciation for gardens, the environment, and, of course, having fun outside!
In addition to interactive exhibits, The Discovery Center operates three full licensed preschool classrooms; a K-5 after school program; an Extended Playtime program for 3 and 4 year olds; family workshops; and DISCOVERY KID’S STEAM-based summer day camps. All Discovery Center school programs are Standard Approved by the New York State Education Department and offered to elementary students annually either by our mobile Museum to You program, or here on site.
The air conditioned facility offers free parking, inside & outdoor picnic areas, diaper changing facilities, and a nursing room. The Museum is on the B.C. Transit bus line.
